THE ASA NATIONAL PLAN FOR TEACHING

The National Plan for Teaching is a comprehensive resource aimed at any organisation/individual etc responsible for implementing a learn to swim programme.

Comprising six levels from non swimmer to advanced the national plan provides a template for all learn to swim programmes.

KEY PRINCIPLES UNDERPINNING THE PLAN

• multi-disciplinary - wide range of aquatic skills
• emphasises the importance of initial orientation, of being at ease and at home in the water
• development of the key skills of breathing, flotation, streamlining and propulsion
• integrates the key skills to produce high levels of technique on all strokes
• development of high reliability through repetition, revision and consolidation
• identification of correct standard of skill performance
• direct relationships to the ASA Awards Scheme
• link into the competitive arena
• provides professional Development for teachers
