1999 GREAT BRITAIN MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS
4TH-6TH JUNE - COVENTRY SPORTS CENTRE, FAIRFAX STREET, COVENTRY
  1. ELIGIBILITY These Championships are open to members of clubs affiliated to the ASA, the Scottish ASA, the Welsh ASA or one of the countries affiliated to FINA.

    All competitors, including relay team members, must be aged 25 years or over on 31/12/99.

    All competitors representing ASA affiliated clubs must be REGISTERED directly with the ASA and for individual events and team events a swimmer must have been a member of the club in whose name he/she is entered at least 60 days prior to the first day of the competition.

    A competitor may only represent one club in the championships.


  2. AGE GROUPS (Age as at 31st December 1999)
    Men & Women:-
    A 25yrs-29yrs F 50yrs-54yrs L 75yrs-79yrs
    B 30yrs-34yrs G 55yrs-59yrs M 80yrs-84rs
    C 35yrs-39yrs H 60yrs-64rs N 85yrs-89yrs
    D 40yrs-44yrs J 65yrs-69yrs P 90yrs-94yrs
    E 45yrs-49yrs K 70yrs-74yrs Q 95yrs-99yrs

  3. EVENTS All events Heat Declared Winner in Age Classification. In each event swimmers will be seeded according to their entry time and will compete against those with similar times from the various groups taking part in the event.

    a) Individual Events (Swimmers are limited to 7 individual events)
    50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m Freestyle
    50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke, Breaststroke & Butterfly
    and 200m & 400m Individual Medley.

    b) Team Events
    Competitors may only represent one club and clubs may only enter one team , per event.
    Men, Women & Mixed (2 Men/2 Women) 4 x 50m Freestyle & 4 x 50m Medley in the following age-groups:
    (1) 100-119yrs (total age) (5) 240-279yrs (total age)
    (2) 120-159yrs (total age) (6) 280-319yrs (total age)
    (3) 160-199yrs (total age) (7) 320-359yrs (total age)
    (4) 200-239yrs (total age)

  4. ENTRIES Individual Events £4.50 each, Team Events £11.00 each. CHEQUES PAYABLE TO "ASA' PLEASE.

    Completed forms should be returned to the National Events Administrator, ASA, The Medway Building, Loughborough University, Epinal Way, Loughborough, Leicestershire LE11 3TU, England, GBR. All entries to be received by Thursday 6th May 1999. Entry form(s) and fee should be sent by RECORDED DELIVERY to ensure receipt. It is regretted that entries sent without fee or incorrectly completed cannot be accepted. All entries must be on the official entry form or a photocopy thereof. Would British entrants please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope size 9½" x 6½" for the return of re-entry cards etc. Overseas competitors should collect their cards on arrival at the pool.


  5. RELAYS
    a) Clubs are limited to one team per event.
    b) A competitor may only represent one club in the Championships.
    c) To provide a more meaningful competition, events will be seeded from entry times.
    d) Total age of team as at 31st December 1999.
    e) The names of competitors must be submitted to the recorders (using the official "Team Declaration Form/s") at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the session.


  6. SESSION TIMES

    Session times wilt be circulated to all competitors with their re-entry cards.
    FRIDAY 4th JUNE late am or early pm & eve; SATURDAY 5th JUNE am, pm & eve; SUNDAY 6th JUNE am & pm.


  7. THE CARD SYSTEM The secondary entry system will be used.

    a) After the closing date for entries the ASA office in Loughborough will forward to you an entry card for each event (Overseas competitors should collect their cards on arrival at the pool).
    b) Please ensure that you bring your card(s) with you to the Meet.
    c) The re-entry boxes will be situated near to the changing rooms.
    d) Cards for ALL events you wish to swim MUST be posted in the re-entry box at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the session in which the event takes place. You are not considered to be in the race until your card has been placed in the re-entry box. Failure to make this secondary entry within the stipulated time will cancel your right to compete in the event. However, you may be allowed to swim in unallocated lanes in earlier heats in the same event, if available. This shall be on a first come first served basis.

    NB: Swimmers may post their cards for the whole weekend, but if they wish to withdraw at a later stage they must inform the recorders at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the relevant session. Competitors withdrawing on medical grounds after the 30 minutes deadline must have their withdrawal endorsed by the Champion- ships Medical Officer.
    FAILURE TO NOTIFY OFFICIALS OF A WITHDRAWAL SUSPENDS THE SWIMMER FROM FUTURE PARTICIPATION IN THE REMAINING EVENTS IN THAT MEET.
    e) Swimmers shall be placed in graduated time order, slowest to fastest, regardless of age group. f) When the heats have been arranged, the Recorders will print start lists in matrix form and these will be pinned up around the pool. Announcements will be made when your cards, giving heat and lane number, are available for collection. Due to the large number of swimmers this will be on a staggered basis.
    g) Fifteen minutes prior to the start of the session, or one event prior to the one in which you are competing, you should present yourself, with your card, to the Competitors Steward. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO BE AT THE START IN TIME FOR YOUR EVENT.
    h) Immediately prior to your swim hand your card to the timekeeper on your lane or, for 50m events, to the steward.


  8. TRAINING & WARM-UP The pool will be available for training/warm-up prior to the start of competition. Times will be circulated to all competitors with their re-entry cards. The diving pool will be available for swim-down during competition.


  9. AWARDS Medals shall be awarded to the first three placed swimmers and teams in each age group.

WHY SHOULD I SWIM?

Swimming is a Great Exercise. Apart from using many different Muscles, it stimulates the Heart and Circulation, and more importantly its FUN, particularly with Family and Friends.

Anyone aged 25 or over (on 31st December in year of competition) can join in a full iange of events, but Competitive Swimming is only one part ofthe Masters concept. There is a Good Social Side too.

Fitness, Fun and Friendship through Swimming is the Masters motto.

NOTES:

CARD POSTING: Cards for ALL events you wish to swim MUST be posted at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the session in which the event takes place.
The Recorders will print start lists in matrix form and these will be pinned up around the pool.
COLLECTION OF CARDS: Due to the large number of swimmers, cards will be available for collection on a staggered basis. Announcements will be made when your cards, giving heat & lane number, are available for collection. Please note: Swimmers may post their cards for the whole weekend, but if they wish to withdraw at a later stage they must inform the Recorders at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the relevant session.
Competitors withdrawing on medical grounds after the 30 minutes deadline must have their withdrawal endorsed by the Championships Medical Officer.
Failure to notify officials of a withdrawal suspends the swimmer from future participation in the remaining events in that Meet.
